This beer was actually consumed a while ago at the Stockholm Beer & Whiskey Festival, but for some reason, the review for this fine brew, never saw the light of day. So, let’s blow the dust off this one, and dive right into it, shall we?
Beer Here or the man behind the brewery Christian Skovdal Andersen, has slowly but surely started to become a favorite brewery/brewer of mine. Mainly because of his willingness to try different ingredients, and having the courage to mix various beer styles every now and then. Up until now, every Beer Here brew that I’ve tried has been a pleasant and interesting experience, I hope that there will be many more to come.
We got this one right off the tap here at Brill & Co. When served, it had a nice rich amber colored body, with a thick beige carpet of head sitting nicely on top of it. It appeared to be adequately carbonated. Looked like it had a slight chill-haze going on.
OMG, as the youngster like to put it. Taking a sniff on this one, is like taking the elevator straight up to hop-heaven. Loads of apricots come through, as does other exotic miscellaneous fruits. For a short while I even got a slight ripe banana flavor. God, it’s like sticking your head into a big healthy fruit basket. This fruitiness goes very well together with the flavor of rye thats comes through as well.
A freight train fully loaded with hops is the first thing and also the last thing that hits you. In between you also get pine, grapefruit, citrus, herbal, spiciness and notes of caramel that shine through. The bitterness from the hops lingers on, for what feels like an eternity. I guess, the name of the beer, Hop Fix, should have been some sort of indication, but I still feel a bit blown away by all the hoppiness (in a good way though).
Medium to thick creamy body that is smooth like silk, very well carbonated. The mouthfeel on this beer is really spot on!
Overall impression 8/10
As previously stated, I have yet to be disappointed by Beer Here / Christian Skovdal Andersen, and this beer is no exception. Beer Here Hop Fix gives you exactly what it promises, a big healthy dose of hops, that is balanced out really well with the malty rye flavor.
Total Score 43/50
Excellent – Exemplifies style well, requires minor fine-tuning
